Is it really free?
Yes. No subscription, no ads, no “Pro” version. Why it is free.
Is it safe to install an APK?
BooxDay is open source: anyone can read the code on GitHub. Every version is signed with the same key, so updates install over each other and a tampered file won't. Download it only from this site or the GitHub releases page.
Do I need a Google account?
No. You can keep your calendar only on the tablet, or use Outlook. Google is only needed for Google Calendar and Drive backup.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Calendar, memos, tasks and search work without internet. Going online is only needed for calendar sync, Drive backup, AI features, updates, and the first download of the handwriting model.
Do the AI features cost money?
They are optional and run on your own OpenRouter account. OpenRouter has free models, and BooxDay uses them when your account has no credit. Paid models are billed by OpenRouter to you, usually cents. Free models' providers may keep what you send; the privacy policy explains how to keep it private.
Will an update delete my notes?
No. Updates keep your memos, tasks and settings. Uninstalling the app does delete them, so make a backup first (Settings > Data & Backup).
Which tablets does it work on?
Onyx BOOX tablets with Android 10 or later. It has been tested on the Note Air3 C, Note Air5 C, Go 10.3, Go 10.3 Gen II (Lumi), Go 7 Gen II and Go 6 Gen II. Other BOOX models should work but haven't been tested; other Android tablets aren't supported, because BooxDay uses the BOOX pen system.
Have a different BOOX? Testers are welcome: share how it works on the GitHub issues page.
Why isn't it on Google Play?
Installing from GitHub keeps BooxDay simple to release and lets it update itself. Google's sign-in review is done, so Google Calendar works for everyone.
Support and contributions. BooxDay is shared as is, without technical or product support. Bug reports and code contributions are welcome on the GitHub issues page, but there is no promise of a reply or a fix.
